Despite all but the most established cryptocurrencies having the cash value of a speck of dust (almost like a pyramid scheme, weird innit), people are still apparently trying to use the highly speculative currency to cash out by using the in-game economy of Old School RuneScape. Well, that party is now over, as Jagex has drawn a firm line in the sand over the practice.
“Using cryptocurrency or meme coins to trade against, bet on, or profit from the price of in-game items in any of our products is not permitted,” the studio’s announcement plainly states. “This includes manipulating item prices for any real-world gain, including positions taken on whether a price will go up or down.”
Those who are caught engaging in manipulation of the sandbox’s market will be smote, with a stated zero tolerance policy for accounts that are found to be doing so, while definition of what constitutes such manipulation left to the sole discretion of Jagex. Those whose actions have unintended economic effects will also face account-level actions proportionate to the level of suspected intent.
In other and arguably more fun OSRS news, the devs offered a preview of its upcoming Graveyard agility course and several rewards that are planned for those who complete it, including a giant squirrel pet, a new armor ornament set, and the expected Agility skill XP and Marks of Grace currency. The post also discusses adjustments to the currently available Graceful ornament set and other cosmetic rewards like ghostly ship sails.
