Varsity High School Football Adds Dynasty Gamecast as Development Continues

Spear Interactive has shared another development update for Varsity High School Football, giving fans a closer look at campus customization, Dynasty mode improvements and the latest gameplay work. The team is making progress on several features, including new animations, defensive coverage and special teams.

Campus customization is coming along, adding the ability for players to build their own school surroundings using a grid-based system. The idea is to keep things simple while still offering plenty of options. Players will be able to place and rotate pieces, change textures and colors and put together their own campus layout. There are currently around 80 pieces available with the team hoping to have a few hundred ready by launch. A community sharing feature is also planned, allowing players to share their custom campuses and fields. Dynasty players will also get a preview of their next opponent’s stadium at the start of each week.

Speaking of Dynasty mode, it’s getting another addition with Gamecast, allowing players to follow simulated games without having to play them. Games can run at different speeds while showing live drives, team comparisons, player stats and play-by-play updates.

The team mentions man and zone coverage have reached a point where the team is happy with their progress. Work has now shifted toward kickoffs and returns. There’s also been another round of motion capture, adding more natural movement away from the ball, defensive back animations, strafing and celebrations. The studio has been working with real athletes and football players to build out its animation library.

More motion capture sessions are planned for later this month focusing on tackles, along with offensive and defensive line play. The team has booked a larger studio in Toronto to better handle contact animations involving multiple players. If you’re interested in suiting up, make sure to contact them.

There’s still no release date for Varsity High School Football. Fans who want to follow development, support the team or get involved in ongoing playtests can check out the game’s Patreon page or add it to their Steam wishlist.
